So I've gotten my share of offers and rejections (actually just one offer and many rejections) and some people are going overboard with these rejection letters.
Before I start, I would suggest you not say "oh this guy is just bitter" or "you mad bro?" because yes, I'm bitter and yes, I'm mad. And so yes, this is a rant. Not so much from getting rejected, but from the sheer stupidity of these rejection letters. I'm sure many of you will agree, and others will find this an entertaining rant, which is also fine with me.
But regardless, if you reject me after a flyout, just get to the point and say you decided to go with someone else. Just say someone else was better, that I wasn't good enough, that I won't be getting an offer from you. I don't need to hear "everyone was good, including you....,""You had the support of many faculty members...""we really liked you...""I think you'll be a fantastic researcher no matter where you go...""another school will be lucky to have you...""we gave you a lot of consideration and it was really really tough making a decision..." (Wordings changed so that it's not obvious what school this is)
None of that matters bro. At the end of the day, you rejected me, and all this fluff around it just makes it ridiculously frustrating. I don't give a s**t that some faculty members wanted to work with me and that some other school is lucky to have me, you don't mean that at all. If you meant it, then you wouldn't turn me down. So cut the bulls**t everyone. I actually think much more highly of the schools who simply rejected me by saying "We offered A and B. Sorry. Good luck!" instead of all the bulls**t you pull out of your ass.
